One study estimates that there are 550 billion documents housed on Web sites including company information, job listings, and etc. Due to the rapid development of Web sites, some website owners concern that deep linking makes their ownership vague. Others argue that hypertext links are just a type of searching tool that simply leads the users to get their information. The amount of information available on the Web is tremendous. The Web should be designed to ensure easy access to information. The Web site owners should be interested in universal access information rather than their ownership.
Deep linking should be allowed because web sites have already created problems. Users’ complaint with the Web in general is that it is too difficult to locate exactly what users are looking for. Web site users do not care who owns the web. They just want to get the information they need. If web site owners play games with their users by making the searching situation worse by directing the users go around their main pages rather than directly access to the deep link to get the information they need, users will gradually push the web owners out of business. Maybe Blogs!
On the other hand, users always want to use effective and efficient tools to access online documents. And users choose the more convenient web sites which allow them to access online documents from a web page through deep link directly to interior pages of the web site. The ones that make the users feel inconvenient will sooner or later be obsolete. What is the purpose to design a web site? Providing facilitated tool for users to navigate the web sites should be their first priority to consider, namely, allowing direct, deep linking to the needed information.
Web should be barrier free and conveniently available to all. In order to ensure universal access, it is important to consider not only access to the web, but access to particular information on it through deep linking.
You can find information regarding to the links ownership on Linkes_Ownership or Wilsonweb.

Photoblogs

What is Photoblogs? There is a list for librarians. Twenty technologies so far are listed. In the near future, the list will get longer because of the rapid development of technology. UC and Open Content Alliance will start the project in 2006. Together they will scan and upload thousands of print materials which are out-of-copyright onto the internet.
Digitization of print materials is the trend to preserve and free access information. However, the traditional forms to preserve information, such as books and music albums will change into electronic formats. More and more users will access online to get information because of the convenient technology.
Nowadays more and more users prefer the technology provided to them because they have already benefited from the internet--easy access and get information. Almost everything is online, patrons don't have to physically walk in distance to the library anymore. Don't get me wrong, it doesn't mean that library books will be replaced soon. I always doubt that digital scans can replace the library books.
However, online resources still make some librarians worry about the future of library-- usage of library and the books.
Librarians should not be scared of the technology rather than taking advantages of technology.
Library can add more computers to increase library attendance; and librarians might create some programs to promote reading, such as book discussion groups for teens and adults.
As someone said,"We, librarians are the masters, the technology is only our server!"
Librarians should welcome new technology into our libraries and stand in the forefront of new technology to serve our patrons better.

Writing Web 2.0 for

Librarians

I have read Web 2.0 for librarians, which was posted by Michael Stephens on Techsource.ala.org. It is an awesome and a fantastic idea to write about Web 2.0 for librarians, especially for those who are unfamiliar with Web 2.0.

We all know that librarians are the pioneers to learn new things, such as new technology so that they can use what they have learned to serve others better.

The Web 2.0 tools are great for users, according to Michael, because users can use the tools of Web 2.0 to create, change and publish dynamic content of all kinds. They post their working experience (unusual) on the blog, such as what they can and cannot do, what kind of working envirnment they are in, and what the boundaries are for librarian. It is really helpful for new librarians to learn from their peers. Some comments are interesting.

The ILL News blog is the news related to OCLC resources, First Search, Worldcat datebase on First Search, and OCLC system alerts.
